This is the Pyeomusa Pavilion, famous as the place where crown prince Hyomyeong used to read and philosophize. Crown prince Hyomyeong was the son of Sunjo, the 23rd king of Joseon. He was the first direct line prince born from a queen in 150 years since king Sukjong, and king Sunjo must have been very happy. He also displayed great strength of intellect and handsomeness, fit for a king. king Sunjo decided to leave the task of running the country to such a dependable son. This is called a Daerichungjeong, or regency. He took regency at the age of nineteen, as the king wished to train such a talented crown prince on the art of politics from an early age, so that he would become even more of an influential king after his own death. After crown prince Hyomyeong took regency, he displayed great political talent and removed the problematic oligarchy, and strengthened royal powers. Unfortunately he passed away within three years. Crown prince Hyomyeong was also talented in composing poetry, and left many poems that contained his love for his father, king Sunjo. Chundangdae is one of such poems. As the spring pond is bright,so are the flowers' shadows beautiful The whole mountain is red and holds the rain and the morning dew, our king's virtue is spread as such all over the world. The artistically talented crown prince Hyomyeong also created various dances used in national ceremonies, and also modified various traditional dances to fit the occasion. For example, he made a dance called the Chunangmu to celebrate his mother's 40th birthday. It is a solo dance performed on a Hwamunseok while wearing a yellow outfit representing a nightingale. It remains today as a valuable palatial art.
