Injeongmun Gate
This is the Injeongmun Gate. 'Injeong' means 'benevolent politics'. In order to carry out benevolent politics, a king should strive to develop wise character by himself, so that his subject voluntarily follow. The fact that the name 'Injeong' was used for both the gate and the building beyond the gate shows a desire for a good politics sought by the dynasty. As such, the coronation ceremony was among the most important ceremonies. Traditionally, the king's enthronement would take place in front of the main entrance of the main structure of the palace where the former king had passed away. If the preceding king had passed away in Changdeokgung Palace, the next king would have to be enthroned in front of the main entrance at Injeongjeon Hall. Normally, the coronation ceremony was held six days after the former king’s death, and was kept simple as the funeral of the former king was still progressing. Injeongmun was also where all the king's ministers would convene and hold an assembly to pay their respects to the king, every five days.
