Huijeongdang Hall

Huijeongdang Hall
This is Huijeongdang Hall, where the king spent most of his time during the day taking care of administrative work.

A long time ago, there was a small, square pond in the yard of Huijeongdang. To its south was the equipment where one could study the stars.
The fact that an astronomical instrument was situated right next to the king's place represented the will of the king to carry upright politics following celestial morality. The building was destroyed by fire four times, and the current building was rebuilt in 1920. Many changes were made to its exterior during this reconstruction, among which the largest was the entrance added to its southern side. Normally the front side had five wooden stairs through which people entered the building. Following the introduction of new culture and technology to Joseon, an entrance was installed to let coaches and cars pass through easier.
