Seongsaengwi (Sacrifice Inspection Platform)

This tile-paved platform was used for the inspection of animal sacrifices -- such as cattle, sheep, and pig -- to be offered to the royal ancestral spirits at a memorial rite. As the importance of the rite grew during the late Joseon Period, the inspection began to be performed by the king himself.
