As its name Eojeong (Royal Well) suggests, this water well had been used to provide drinking water for Joseon kings whenever they visited Jongmyo Shrine for royal ancestral rites. The water provided by the well is known to have been “as cold as ice” in summer and soothingly warm in winter. The well maintained similar water levels regardless of the climatic conditions outside, and it still has not dried up to this day.
